Nanostructured Indium Oxide Coated Silicon Nanowire Arrays: A Hybrid Photothermal/Photochemical Approach to Solar Fuels

A paper by Laura, Paul, and Abdinoor reports the use of a hybrid catalyst consisting of In2O3-x(OH)y grown on an ultrablack vertically aligned Si nanowire support to reduce CO2 to CO. The ultrablack support improves light harvesting efficiency by converting the excess solar spectrum into heat to drive the catalytic reaction. This study provides a general advance into the design of catalysts for solar fuels.
